The African American Heritage Trail Project is based at MVRHS, where
Dr. Elaine Weintraub teaches a program based on
the Trail. On the campus is a plaque commemorating the achievements
of a multiracial basketball team of the 1970's, a unique photo display
of WW I soldier's Edward Jannifer's collection
that chronicles the life of African American soldiers in that conflict
(see below), and the various and numerous student projects kept
in Dr. Weintraub's classroom - a virtual museum of student work
and research effort on the Trail. Two large hand-painted murals
depict the life of Nancy Michael by Joe Murphy,
while another honors Captain William Martin and is by Bronwyn
Burns. The plaque memorializing the Early 70's
Basketball teams is also here. You are welcome to visit
the school at any time, and visit Dr. Weintruab's classroom by appointment.
The school is located centrally on Vineyard Haven-Edgartown Road. |
