Pulpit rock was a very im portant place, becaue it was where all of the
African-Americans on Martha's Vineyard used to come to pray. The Reverend
John Saunders preached here, and inspired many people.

The Eastville Cemetery is a graveyard where many of the African-Americans
of Martha's Vineyard are buried. Many graves have been lost over the years,
and there is a constant battle to get the Lobster Hatchery to move a few
tanks, so excavation may be done to search for lost graves.

Shearer cottage is a very important site because it was the first inn
on Martha's Vineyard that allowed African-Americans to stay. In the 1920's,
it became the center of all African-American activities on the island.
